AZIENDA AGRICOLA PIETRARA

The Azienda Pietrara in Monte San Martino concentrates on quality rather than quantity, thus choosing both apples and olives as the crops most suitable for its soil and for its mostly-southern exposure at an elevation from 400 to 550 meters. This location and elevation is ideal for growing the highly esteemed mela rosa (pink apple). Beekeeping is another important activity of Azienda Pietrara. These bees live in a healthy environment among a vast variety of both spontaneous and cultivated flowers. The owner is Alfonso Peretti and it is managed by Gabriele Anselmi and Massimo Sabbatini. Their products include apples, jams, apple juice and honey.

AZIENDA AGRICOLA AMARGI

Marco and Chiara purchased a farm in Smerillo which was overgrown with brambles and whose arable land was depleted of organic substance. They are restoring the fertility of the land by avoiding chemical substances and by using organic fertilizers. Their aim is “to promote biodiversity through the diversification of crops, giving priority to ancient varieties or those at risk of genetic erosion.” In their lab, they distill plants in a stream of water vapour in order to obtain 100% pure essential oils and aromatic waters. Their orchard consists of pear, apricot, cherry and fig trees as well as of the mela rosa (the pink apple indigenous to the hills descending from the Sibillini Mountains). They follow traditional recipes for the products they produce and sell. Not to be missed is their pink apple and sage jam. They also produce millefiori, acacia and chestnut honey. Their apiaries are located in several locations in order to obtain these various honeys.
